Chat 'N Choo BBQ
BBQ has been a passion and hobby of Chris’s since he was young; and since 2011 he has been competing under the name Chat –N- Choo BBQ, which was passed down to him from his grandfather, Wayne. Wayne has competed in Competitions, Owned BBQ stands and Restaurants in Southeast Texas since the early 80’s; one of Wayne’s most prized wins was a 1st Place Brisket at the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo in the mid 80’s. Chat –N- Choo BBQ is now made up of Chris, his wife, Jennifer and their son, Landon; as a team they compete in 25-30 cook-offs a year, traveling all over Texas and occasionally traveling to competitions in surrounding states. The next generation of Chat-N-Choo BBQ has a strong start to carrying on the BBQ legacy with multiple Grand Champions, Reserve Grand Champions and many Top 10 places.
J3 BBQ is located in Pilot Point, Tx. The team is comprised of Terry Johnson, his wife Heather Johnson and twin 7 year old girls Karsyn & Adisyn Johnson. J3 BBQ started as a hobby in 2014 as a tribute to Terry's late father Neal Johnson who loved to BBQ for people, J3 was his fathers brand. He and his father had just received deliver of their custom Jambo pit not long before Neal suddenly passed away. Terry & Heather quickly learned they had a passion for competition BBQ and they started practicing, taking classes and going to as many competitions as time would allow. In 2015 they got serious and attended approximately 25 comps and received 5 GC's, tied for 2 RGC's and multiple top 5 finishes throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Missouri. They qualified and traveled to the American Royal in 2015 and walked with a 13th Brisket out of 615 teams in the open competition. They are still going strong in 2016 with three top 10 walks at Hold 'Em & Hit Em in Houston out of 150 teams & recently took their first RGC at Chilly Chili in Austin amongst 102 tough teams from all over the state of Texas.
Mat Griner has been competing on the Pro BBQ Circuit since 2012. BBQ is a true passion for him and he enjoys eating it as much as he does cooking it. His team won 2 GC's in 2016, 5 top 5's, 9 top 10's. In 2017, he is looking even better as Southern Q looks to hit the BBQ competition trail even harder.
Carnivore Cartel is headed off by Caleb Jordan and his wife, Heather. Hailing from Holliday, Tx their first competition was late 2013 and their first Grand Champion came at their 6th competition at The Triple Crown of Texas in Waco in 2014. Turning from a hobby into a full blown addiction in 2015 they ended the season with 30 contests, 4 Grand Champions, 22 top 10 finishes and 44 top 10 calls. Competing in the 2015 American Royal against 618 teams was the highlight of their career with a 31st finish in the Invitational contest and a 34th overall in the Open contest putting them in the top 1% of teams that competed in both.
Sons of Smoke
Son of Smoke started his pro postmaster status at the age of 15. In 2013, after cooking backyard comps for 2 years, Zack decided to go pro and is the California BBQ Association Rookie of the Year 2013. Later in 2013, he earned his way to the Sam's Club Finals in Bentonville Arkansas. He is the youngest ever to Grand Champion a KCBS contest at 16 at Smoke on the Water in Clear Lake CA in 2014.
2015-2016 has been a great year. Zack has earned 4 GC's and an invitation to the American Royal in Kansas City along with 4 chances to be chosen for The Jack.
The team is now a family team with Zack Galiste as the head pitmaster. Father Derrick, Mother Vicki, sister Megan and niece Brooke.
3 Woody's BBQ
3 Woody's BBQ of Kennedale Texas has been competing since 2011 and amassed several Grand Championships and Reserve Grand Championships. 3 Woody's has been using Meat Church rubs for the last two years in their recipes and we are proud to have them on our team.
Big Green Craig
Big Green Craig hails from Atlanta, GA. Craig is a pioneer in the Meat Church congregation. Craig captained the winning team of the 2015 Big Green Egg Eggfest, known as Eggtoberfest. He also teaches bbq/grilling classes, caters and hosts private events. His creativity, execution, photography and plating skills set him apart from the pack. From BBQ to desserts, there’s nothing he won’t grill!
Tim Shelburn is a self-proclaimed Big Green Egg chef and expert. He has had a passion for cooking for at least 15 years. This back yard warrior isn’t afraid to try new things and can turn out some amazing cooks with the best of them. His plating skills and imagination are unmatched. Tim helped team Meat Church in the 2015 Red Dirt BBQ and Music Festival. When he isn’t cooking like a boss, he can be found playing webmaster for this website.
