Classic Old Fashioned

The old fashioned is a classic cocktail that was invented in Louisville, KY. You can make it with rye or bourbon. Today I used my Buffalo Trace barrel pick. In this recipe we are using a brown sugar based simple syrup but we also have a recipe using a pecan simple syrup or you can muddle a sugar cube instead.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • 2 dashes of black walnut bitters
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup

Garnish

  • 1 orange peel
  • luxardo cherry

Make the cocktail

Pour the whiskey, simple syrup and and bitters in an iced mixing glass. Stir with a bar spoon to combine.

Pour over a clear ice cube in a low ball or rocks glass. I used my Klaris Ice maker.

Add in a luxardo cherry for garnish. Express an orange peel around the rim and garnish with it.
